OPEN COURSE WORKPLACE SAFETY TRAINING
Spartan Response is pleased to offer our Workplace Safety Training in an Open Course format held at our office/training facility in Stoney Creek (234 Arvin Avenue), led by our qualified instructors.
Our Monthly Open Courses are Designed for:
· Individuals (Single Registration) who wish to take training for their own personal development.
· Organizations (Employer Registration) who wish to register their employees for specific training that aligns with their particular role within the company/industry.
Our programs include in-class theory/testing, practical skill assessments, training materials and a certificate of completion. Our training facility is equipped with a large classroom that can hold groups up to 20 participants, and a 2,000 sqft open space and custom training prop designed for programs that require specific scenario-based exercise & skill assessments, training materials and a certificate of completion.
Most of our programs are Director Approved by the Ontario Waste Water Certification Office (OWWCA), and provide participants with Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

APRIL 8, 2026
Basic Spill Response (Hazmat)
OWWCO Director Approved – CEU = 0.7
Time: 8:30AM - 4:30PM
Cost: $290 + HST
Our 8-hour Basic Spill Response training program covers key topics that are essential for addressing hazardous material spill incidents in the workplace, and how to safely and effectively assess and manage spill response deployment. With an industrial sector focus, the course content covers: Regulations, hazards, identification systems and risk assessments and the reporting/action-oriented requirements for workers dealing with low hazard chemical releases.
Key learning outcomes include: Understanding an organization's EHS Program, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), selecting the right Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), utilizing a Spill Response Kit, incident reports and knowing when/how to report a spill with the ministry.
Certification is contingent on: Students attending the in-class theory, practical skills exercise, and passing the written test.
APRIL 9, 2026
Fall Protection - Working at Heights (3M)
Time: 8:30AM – 4:30PM
Cost: $250 + HST
Spartan Response is certified to deliver the Fall Protection - Working at Heights training program developed by the 3M Fall Protection Group. This program is approved by the Chief Prevention Officer (CPO) and meets the requirements of the Working at Heights Training Standard. This program will provide students with necessary knowledge to safely perform their duties at heights.
This full-day (7.5 Hr) course is for workers in the Ontario construction industry who must complete the required training under Ontario Regulation 213/91 (Construction Projects).
Key learning outcomes include: Fall dynamics & hazard identification, rights and responsibilities pertaining to working at heights, ladder safety, legislation for worker fall safety, fall hazard control and system alternatives, personal fall protection components, rescue requirements and, equipment care principles.
Certification is contingent on: Students attending the in-class theory, practical skills exercise, and passing the written test.
APRIL 14, 2026
Confined Space Entry (CSE)
OWWCO Director Approved – CEU = 0.7
Time: 8:30AM – 4:30PM
Cost: $265 + HST
Our 8-Hour Confined Space Entry training program is designed for workers that require training for safe work practices related to monitoring and/or entering and working in confined spaces as outlined in Ontario Regulation (O. Reg. 632/05).
Key learning outcomes include: Review of Provincial Legislation, Hazard & Risk Assessments associated with Confined Spaces, Metering & Monitoring, Ventilation, Permitting and required equipment and Personal Protective Equipment.
Certification is contingent on: Students attending the in-class theory, completing a Confined Space Permit and passing the written test.
APRIL 15, 2026
Confined Space Rescue (CSR)
OWWCO Director Approved – CEU = 0.7
Time: 8:30AM – 4:30PM
Cost: $290 + HST
Our 8-Hour Confined Space Rescue training program is designed for workers that require training for safe work practices related to their role as rescue personnel who respond to emergencies as a designated/certified member of an organization/municipalities confined space rescue team. This program focuses on the skills required to safely and efficiently perform confined space rescue in industrial and municipal sectors. (Reference: Ontario Regulation (O. Reg. 632/05).
Pre-Requisite: The Confined Space Rescue program is designed for workers expected to perform Rescue. As a result, workers MUST have the 8-hour Confined Space Entry Training. It is also highly recommended they have First Aid/CPR AED Training.
Key learning outcomes include: Review of Provincial Legislation, rescue operations, types of rescues and required equipment and Personal Protective Equipment. This program includes both in-class theory and students will participate in hands-on equipment and setup exercises, and address safe practices and procedures.
Certification is contingent on: Students attending the in-class theory, completing the practical exercises and passing the written test.
APRIL 21, 2026 (AM)
Fire Extinguisher Safety
OWWCO Director Approved - CEU = 0.4
Time: 8:30AM - 12:30PM
Cost: $160 + HST
Our 4-Hour Fire Awareness/Extinguisher Safety Training program is designed for employees who may need to respond to small workplace fires. It covers fire science basics, fire classes, types of extinguishers, emergency response, and practical extinguisher use, providing participants with essential skills for safely managing minor fire incidents.
Certification is contingent on participants successfully completing a written test and a practical skills evaluation using a live fire and extinguisher. (Location for practical is outside. Dress accordingly).
APRIL 21, 2026 (PM)
Ladder Safety
OWWCO Director Approved – CEU = 0.4
Time: 1:00PM-4:30PM
Cost: $160 + HST
Our 4-hour Ladder Safety Awareness training program aims to help participants prevent workplace falls and injuries through proper ladder selection, inspection and safe usage. We cover essential regulations, hazard assessments and operational practices. This course is ideal for any worker who uses ladders to ensure they can perform tasks safely and in compliance with safety standards.
APRIL 23, 2026 (AM)
Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
OWWCO Director Approved – CEU = 0.4
Time: 8:30AM - 12:30PM
Cost: $160 + HST
Our 4-hour Transportation of Dangerous Goods training program focuses on the regulatory requirements as mandated by Transport Canada for compliance regarding the safety and shipping standards for all dangerous goods.
Training must be provided to employees prior to the handling of dangerous goods. It is required for organizations that handle (ship, transport & receive) products that meet the definition of dangerous goods by TC.
Certification is contingent on participants successfully completing a written test.
APRIL 23, 2026 (PM)
RPRA Hazardous Waste - Reg 347
Time: 1:00PM - 4:30PM
Cost: $160 + HST
Our 4-hour Hazardous Waste – Regulation 347 training program focuses on Ontario 347 regulations for managing hazardous & non-hazardous industrial waste. This course covers waste classifications, regulatory compliance, transportation and disposal practices that are essential for environmental protection & adherence to legal requirements. An understanding of the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA) system is also covered. This is the regulator mandated by the Government of Ontario to enforce the province’s circular economy laws.

How to Register
- Option 1: Select “Reserve My Spot” and provide the information requested on the form.
- Option 2: Email info@spartanresponse.com with the course name(s) and date(s) you wish to register for.
- Option 3: Call us at (905) 573-1010 and ask to speak with our Training Coordinator to register by phone.
- Payment: Open Courses must be paid in advance to secure your registration. A Spartan representative will follow-up to coordinate payment with a credit card.
- Invoicing: For clients who register multiple staff, payment terms must be approved in advanced to invoice for training services.
Come Prepared
- Open Courses are held at Spartan Response Head Office & Training Facility located at 234 Arvin Ave in Stoney Creek.
- Arrive 10 minutes early to sign in at reception. Make your way to the training room to let the instructor know you have arrived.
- Bring any PPE that has been communicated for the course (eg steel-toed boots).
- For our SCBA course, participants MUST come clean-shaven. If you’ve booked an SCBA Fit Test with the course, participants MUST bring the mask they need to be fit-tested on (Eg., MSA, SCOTT or Draeger).
- Participants have access to our kitchen (Coffee, tea, filtered water, microwave, fridge, toaster). As our courses do NOT include lunch, we recommend you bring any snacks/lunch with you. There is a half-hour break for lunch in the event participants wish to eat off-site.
