Respirator Mask Fit-Testing: APR & SCBA Masks

The Canadian Standards Association (Z94.9.1.6) and the Ontario’s Occupational Health & Safety Act (OSHA) state that every worker using a respirator to perform their job must be fit-tested, and employers are required to protect them from potentially hazardous airborne particles including biological or chemical agents they may be exposed to. If you’re required to wear a respirator mask as part of your job, you MUST be fit-tested with the specific make, model and size provided by your employer before it’s first use.

Spartan Response provides the industry preferred method of Quantitative Respirator Fit-Testing (QNFT). This method uses Controlled Negative Pressure (CNP) with REDON and CSA SCBA protocols to validate there is a tight “mask-to-face” seal by measuring respirator leakage and airborne particles inside the mask.  The “Fit-Factor PASS” report confirms a worker is safe to use their respirator on the job. Our QNFT service can be performed in under 15 minutes and uses five exercises to verify the respirator is the correct fit, safe for use and, ensures the worker understands how to properly operate their mask.

RESPIRATOR MASKS WE FIT-TEST: Air Purifying Respirators (APR) that use specific cartridges & filters, and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) that uses a clean, supplied air source.

We fit-test both half and full-face respirator masks.

PURCHASING A MASK WITH YOUR FIT-TEST: Employers are responsible to provide their workers with the proper respirator mask to be fit-tested. In some cases, they allow employees to purchase the mask required to perform their job for reimbursement. Spartan Response carries a limited inventory of APR and SCBA masks for purchase, however due to COVID-19, there is a shortage. If you’re looking to purchase a mask with your fit-test, you must call ahead to confirm availability.

Spartan Response does NOT sell cartridges or filters for APR masks.  These are specific to the environment you work in, and should be provided by the employer as protection to specific particulate you may be exposed to.
