OPEN COURSE WORKPLACE SAFETY TRAINING
Spartan Response is pleased to offer our Workplace Safety Training in an Open Course Registration format. Each month, we feature a cross section of our most popular programs for individuals and organizations to attend pre-scheduled courses at our training facility in Stoney Creek. · Individuals (Single Registration) who wish to take training for their own personal development, and are not mandated by the company they work for.
· Organizations (Individual or Group Registration) who require only one employee or a small group of their employees to take a particular training program.
Open Courses are held in-person at our training facility in Stoney Creek and led by Spartan Response Instructors who are qualified, industry experts with 10+ years of experience in the fields they teach. Course fees include training materials and a certificate based on the successful completion of all requirements (attendance, practical assessments & written tests).

September 10, 2024
Basic Spill Response (Hazmat)

Time: 8:30 am-4:30 pm
Cost: $275 + HST
Our 8-hour Basic Spill Response training program covers key topics essential for addressing hazardous material incidents. Tailored for industry needs, it includes regulations, hazards, identification systems, risk assessments, and hands-on hazmat spill control. The training also addresses reporting requirements for workers dealing with low hazard chemical releases, providing participants with practical insights and skills for safe and effective spill response deployment.
Key learning outcomes include understanding TDG classes, interpreting Safety Data Sheets (SDS), utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE), establishing incident objectives, knowing when and how to report a spill, and understanding waste manifests and disposal procedures.
Certification is contingent on participants successfully completing a written test and undergoing a practical skills evaluation.

Respiratory Protection
Time: 8:30am – 12:30pm
Cost: $150 + HST
Our 4-Hour, Respiratory Protection training program focuses on the prevalent method of hazardous material routes of entry, which is inhalation. Workplaces often harbor hazardous atmospheres arising from coatings, off-gassing, reactions, cleaning processes, and more.
Tailored for individuals encountering atmospheres necessitating Air Purifying Respirators at work, the course offers manufacturer-specific training.
The curriculum covers a respiratory overview, various types of breathing apparatus, selection and utilization of Respiratory Protection according to CSA Z94.4 standards, theoretical insights, Fit Factors, equipment orientation, proper donning and doffing procedures, as well as hands-on operations and troubleshooting.
Certification is contingent on participants successfully completing a written test and undergoing a practical skills evaluation.

Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
OWWCO Director Approved – CEU = 0.4
Time: 1:00pm – 4:30pm
Cost: $150 +HST
Optional Add-On: $85 + HST for SCBA Mask Fit Test
*Must be clean shaven. Confirm SCBA mask make & model for fit-test.
Our 4-hour SCBA training program focuses on fundamental content related to CSA Z94.4-11, of the Occupational Health & Safety Act: Atmospheric Hazards, Donning & Doffing, Inspection & Maintenance.
The SCBA course includes both in-class and practical training modules. To successfully obtain certification, participants will be assessed through a written test and evaluation of practical skill performance.
ADD ON: To book an SCBA Mask Fit-Test, please indicate at the time of registration. We offer a discounted rate of $85.00 when combined with the SCBA course. Participants MUST bring their own/company supplied SCBA mask for the fit-test and confirm in advance the make/model the fit-test is for (eg., SCOTT AV3000, MSA Ultra Elite). MUST be clean-shaven.

LOCK-OUT/TAG-OUT

Time: 8:30am-12:30pm
Cost: $125+HST
This 4-hour program is an overview of the basic concepts of what Lockout/Tagout is, why it is important and how to properly use the policies in the workplace. OSHA requires that employees be trained on lockout policies and procedures. The program covers hazards, procedures and equipment used in a compliant Lockout/Tagout program based on applicable regulations and industry best practices.

Working At Heights (W.A.H.)

Time: 8:30am – 4:30pm
Cost: $230 + HST
Our 8-Hour Working at Heights training program is endorsed by the Chief Prevention Officer (CPO) and developed in collaboration with 3M Fall Protection Group Inc., caters to individuals in the Ontario construction sector mandated to undergo essential training as per Ontario Regulation 213/91 (Construction Projects).
Comprising a blend of theoretical and hands-on modules, the program equips participants with the essential knowledge to execute their elevated tasks safely.
The key learning competencies encompass fall dynamics and hazard identification, rights and responsibilities pertaining to working at heights, ladder safety, legislative prerequisites for worker fall safety, fall hazard control and system alternatives, personal fall protection components, rescue requirements and planning, and equipment care principles.
Certification is contingent on participants successfully completing a written test and undergoing a practical skills evaluation.

Confined Space Entry (CSE)

Time: 8:30 am-4:30 pm
Cost: $250 + HST
Our 8-Hour Confined Space Entry training program focuses Provincial Legislation, Metering & Monitoring, Hazard Assessments, Confined Space Entry and Ventilation. Designed for workers who enter confined spaces or for those who assist the entry but are not required to enter the space. The CSE course includes both in-class and practical training modules. To successfully obtain certification, participants will be assessed through a written test and evaluation of practical skill performance.

Confined Space Rescue (CSR)

Time: 8:30 am-4:30 pm
Cost: $275 + HST
Our 8-Hour Confined Space Rescue training program focuses on the skills required to safely and efficiently perform confined space rescue in industrial and municipal environments. Designed for workers who are expected to perform rescue in a confined space environment and have certification in Confined Space Entry (CSE). This program includes a hand-on practical component and evaluation. The CSR course includes both in-class and practical training modules. To successfully obtain certification, participants will be assessed through a written test and evaluation of practical skill.

How to Register
- Option 1: Select “Reserve My Spot” and provide the information requested on the form.
- Option 2: Email [email protected] with the course name(s) and date(s) you wish to register for.
- Option 3: Call us at (905) 573-1010 and ask to speak with our Training Coordinator to register by phone.
- Payment: Open Courses must be paid in advance to secure your registration. A Spartan representative will follow-up to coordinate payment with a credit card.
- Invoicing: For clients who register multiple staff, payment terms must be approved in advanced to invoice for training services.
Come Prepared
- Open Courses are held at Spartan Response Head Office & Training Facility located at 234 Arvin Ave in Stoney Creek.
- Arrive 10 minutes early to sign in at reception. Make your way to the training room to let the instructor know you have arrived.
- Bring any PPE that has been communicated for the course (eg steel-toed boots).
- For our SCBA course, participants MUST come clean-shaven. If you’ve booked an SCBA Fit Test with the course, participants MUST bring the mask they need to be fit-tested on (Eg., MSA, SCOTT or Draeger).
- Participants have access to our kitchen (Coffee, tea, filtered water, microwave, fridge, toaster). As our courses do NOT include lunch, we recommend you bring any snacks/lunch with you. There is a half-hour break for lunch in the event participants wish to eat off-site.
